Things You Still Don’t Know About Clean Water

While there are so many inequalities in this world, no doubt one of the most unfortunate is the fact that fresh water for drinking, bathing, and other purposes is not readily accessible to everyone. Although clean water is easily available in this country, the same cannot be said in many parts of the world. Because many people are used to having clean water without exerting that much effort, there seems to be a growing mentality in which they don’t really put that much value in it. Well, this kind of mentality may very well be the reason why most people don’t really give a damn about water getting polluted. But with the world population rapidly congesting the planet, the rate of water pollution is increasing at a very alarming pace.

When the clean water used for drinking and bathing is polluted, the environment isn’t the only casualty. It is very obvious that human health will be the other major casualty since all of us need clean water to survive.

In the U.S. alone, public water systems are responsible for treating and distributing more than 44 billion gallons of clean water every single day to homes, business establishments, public places, and schools. If you’re asking where all the water is sourced from, think about bodies of water that you usually just ignore like rivers, lakes, and streams. There is a highly complex process involved in treating water right before it gets delivered and the idea is to make it as clean as possible; simply put, this process eliminates things like chemicals, bacteria, and particulates that water picks up while traveling. So, it’s fair to say that the clean and potable water we are using every day for eating, cooking, drinking, cleaning, and bathing needs to be valued the way it needs to be valued.

While many Americans complain about paying water bills, millions of families, specifically in some regions of Africa and Asia don’t even have easy access to fresh water. This shows how spoiled we have become without realizing that the need for clean water for drinking and bathing is a dire one for some people living in the same planet. If we were forced to trade places, most of us wouldn’t survive.

It is true that there is very little most of us can do in order to help those who don’t have access to clean water in the places they happen to live. However, you still can do some positive change by way of educating yourself of the risks involved in tolerating water pollution in your area. If we continue denying the alarming level over which our waters are being used as dumping ground for waste, we will soon find ourselves having to starve and thirst for clean water.
